Gastronomy
The gastronomy in Porto Moniz is quite diverse as is the rest of the islands cuisine.
In addition to the traditional dishes like Espetada, Scabbard with banana, and Tuna, Porto Moniz boasts fantastic seafood dishes. Porto Moniz has a long tradition of dishes such as rice with limpets, limpets, periwinkles, trout and fish. The dock, where the catch of the day is unloaded, is sought after by locals who go there to stock up on fresh fish.
In addition to fish, Porto Moniz is a rural area where many people dedicate themselves to farming. The accompaniments found in most of the restaurants are locally sourced.
Vegetables like green beans, chayote, squash, carrots, cucumber, onion, potatoes, yam and sweet potatoes are some of the most common crops.
